Confidence in 5 Easy Steps

Confidence is a tricky thing. Too much of it and its arrogance. Too little confidence holds us back from achieving our goals. Having just the right amount of confidence gives us the courage to be or do anything! Confidence affects the way other people perceive us, too. Why would someone believe in our capabilities when we don’t even believe? Building confidence is an important tool for developing personal dreams. Believing is the strength behind making anything amazing happen. But how do we do that?

“Be not afraid of life. Believe that life is worth living and your belief will help create the fact.”William James

Building confidence is easier than it seems. Here are 5 very simple things to do on a day to day basis to help build confidence.

1. Work Out

Yea, I know it sounds like a drag, but find an activity that you find interesting. Hula hoop; dance; go for a walk; play with the dog. Being active helps to feel energized. It gives motivation to accomplish more in the day. Exercising excites the spirit. By challenging yourself to do something you wouldn’t necessarily do, you’ll feel proud for making positive choices.

2. Donate to Charity

By contributing to a charitable cause, the mind has a chance to shift gears. Instead of focusing on personal flaws, you’ll be able to see how you are helping the world become a better place. By donating time, money, or things, you are reminded about how successful you are to be in a place of giving (and not receiving charity). People will recognize your kind deeds and see you as generous.

3.  Think Positively Of Others

Having a poor image of ourselves is often caused by having a pessimistic view of the world. When we start to take notice of the beauty, joy and love that is around us, we can begin to see it within ourselves. Smile when you see your neighbor and give compliments. Challenge yourself! Even if you can’t think of one nice thing to say, find one thing complimentary to think about. Maybe their socks match and that’s all it is that is acceptable to you about them. Think it! The more you dig to discover the beauty in others, the easier it will be to see it within yourself.

The more beauty I see in others, the more I see in myself.

4. Play Dress Up

Take the extra time when you’re getting ready to give a little bit extra to yourself. Put on clothes that make you feel important and beautiful. Wear jewelry that you love. Do your hair stylishly. Put on lipstick. The way we dress impacts the way we carry ourselves. That affects the way people perceive us. When we take time to say to ourselves “I’m worth it!” other people see us and think “they’re worth it!”. Believe me when I say, you’re worth it! Keep in mind that dressing for success does not have to be expensive. Here are 5 ways to dress for success on a budget.

5. Be Grateful

By sitting around, feeling sorry for ourselves, we create a monster of unhappiness. We tend to focus on what we don’t have and eventually it feels like there are a lot of things that we are missing in our lives. You may not have the house, the car, the job, the body, or the lifestyle of your dreams (yet), but you do have somewhere to live, running water, the internet, air to breathe, earth under your feet, paved streets, grocery stores, electricity, etc. Being grateful for little things will remove the feeling of lack. Thankful thoughts create abundance.
